Youth charity receives two anonymous £10,000 donations in three weeks

A youth arts and wellbeing charity has received two anonymous donations of £10,000 in the space of three weeks to help it continue operating.

The Hive, which is based in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, launched its Save The Hive campaign last month in a bid to raise £50,000 to keep its base in Belmont, Shrewsbury, open.

Katie Jennings, chief executive of The Hive, said the charity launched the fundraiser due to the “challenging climate”, which has seen the charity’s bills “skyrocket” and its energy bills quadruple.

The charity received an initial £10,000 cheque from a donor who wished to remain anonymous earlier this month.

The donation increased The Hive’s fundraising total to £16,500, which was subsequently bolstered by a second £10,000 donation on 19 August.

The Hive recorded income of £255,574 and expenditure of £326,668 in its latest accounts, for the financial year ending 31 March 2023.

“We are very excited to let you know we have received another £10,000 donation,” the charity said in a post on social media.

“This time from a generous local charity trust, who wish to remain anonymous.

“We are absolutely elated to receive such a huge amount of funding, our second £10,000 of the campaign.”

Trustees from the donating charity visited The Hive and spoke to Jennings and venue manager Ellen Green.

“They took the time to ask us about the work we do, our approach and impact, and the opportunities we offer young people across Shropshire, including those in rural areas,” the charity said.

The Hive has raised £29,000 of its £50,000 fundraising target at the time of writing.
