Wales’ biggest homelessness charity announces new chief

The Wallich has appointed Karen Robson as its next chief executive following the departure of the charity’s previous leader to a Welsh membership body.

Robson will assume her role at the homelessness charity on 23 September, overseeing 132 homelessness and prevention services across 21 of the 22 Welsh local authorities.

The charity’s former chief executive, Lindsay Cordery-Bruce, was announced as the new leader of the Wales Council for Voluntary Action in March.

The Wallich appointed Sian Aldridge as interim chief executive. She will now return to her previous role as director of operations following Robson’s appointment.

Robson is an experienced charity leader whose prior roles include chief executive of the Care Collective, a charity supporting unpaid carers in Wales.

She previously served as the Welsh director and associate director UK services at the national hearing loss charity RNID.

Robson was also director of the National Association of Disability Practitioners CIC in Brighton between 2005 and 2018, three of those 13 years as vice-chair.

“I can already see from the outside the ways in which The Wallich is changing lives for the better through the charity’s mission and values – which I feel incredibly passionate about,” Robson said.

“From the inside, I believe I can be an asset to the organisation and I cannot wait to get stuck in.”

The Wallich said that Robson has vast experience as a panel member and part of advisory boards working with the UK and Welsh Governments advocating for marginalised and underrepresented groups.

“Her work has led organisations through periods of change and development, a revolutionary drive to embed inclusivity and the financial sustainability of charities,” it added.
