London Marathon raised record-breaking figure this year
The 2024 TCS London Marathon raised a record £73.5m for charity, organisers have said.
London Marathon Events, which manages the annual 26.2 mile race around the capital’s streets, announced the final fundraising total today.
The figure comfortably surpasses the previous world record for the amount raised by an annual one-day fundraising event of £66.4m, which was set by the London Marathon in 2019.
More than 53,700 people finished the race this year, up from 49,225 in the previous year.
Samaritans, which was the charity of the year for the 2024 event, said it had raised more than £1.1m from the race and expected that the partnership would generate a total of £2.8m for the charity over the next three years.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is the official charity partner for the 2025 event, which will be staged on 27 April.
The latest total means the event has helped to raise more than £1.3bn for good causes since it was first held in 1981.
Hugh Brasher, chief executive of London Marathon Events, said: “We salute every single participant who has contributed to this world record-breaking total of £73.5m for the thousands of charities which provide essential services to so many.”
