UK Youth appoints former Acevo head as interim chief
UK Youth has appointed Vicky Browning, the former chief executive of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations, as its interim chief.
She succeeds Ndidi Okezie, who announced last month that she would stand down in December after five years in post.
Browning will take up the role from 18 November to ensure a smooth transition and will remain in post until a permanent chief is appointed, the charity said.
She brings significan sector experience to the role, having been the chief executive of the leadership body Acevo for nearly six years before stepping down in June 2022.
Most recently she served as interim chief executive of the advocacy charity Pohwer, from January to August this year.
Browning's previous sector experience also includes roles as interim chief executive at the cross-sector collaboration body Whitehall & Industry Group between October 2022 and June 2023, and as chief executive of the membership organisation CharityComms between 2010 and 2017.
She was awarded an OBE in 2023 for services to the charity sector.
Browning's private sector career includes 16 years at the publishing company Haymarket Media Group, where she worked initially as a journalist and then as a publishing director – a role that included oversight of Third Sector.
Browning said: “I’m really chuffed to be joining UK Youth to build on all the great work that Ndidi and the whole team have been doing.”
David Thomlinson, chair of UK Youth, said: “We are pleased to have Vicky join us as interim chief executive. She has a strong track record of leading charities and delivering strategies that create real impact.
“UK Youth is in a strong and stable position, with an excellent leadership team in place. We are confident the organisation will continue its important work to empower young people to thrive in every stage of life.”
