The chief executive of a membership body that represents cancer charities is set to retire after nine years in the role.

Jane Lyons will step down from her role at Cancer52, which represents 115 charities to promote people affected by less common cancers.

She joined the charity in February 2015 and will retire on 15 July.

Before joining Cancer52, Lyons spent four years as interim director of communications at Arthritis Care and before that was chief executive of the gynaecological cancer charity the Eve Appeal.

“Jane’s leadership has left an indelible impression on the organisation and the wider rare and less common cancer community,” Cancer52 said.

“Under Jane’s guidance, Cancer52 has achieved a reputation as a respected and proactive organisation.

“The Cancer52 board and team extend their heartfelt thanks to Jane and wish her all the best in her new chapter.”

Sasha Daly, director for policy at Cancer52, will become interim chief executive while the charity recruits for the role.

Lyons said: “I step back with a mix of sadness and absolute faith that it’s the right time to do so.

“Cancer52 is in great hands, with a dedicated team building on our work. 

“I am confident that Cancer52 will build an even more powerful voice for people affected by rare and less common cancers.”
