Major charity puts entire street up for auction

The Canal and River Trust is selling a street on the banks of the River Severn in Gloucestershire.

The 24 properties in Dock Road, Sharpness, have been listed for auction with a guide price of £1.6m.

The lot, described as a “rare unbroken street” by the auction house Allsop, comprises of 12 terrace houses, eight semi-detached and two detached properties.

It also includes two semi-detached mixed-use buildings, three garages, a single-storey workshop and 1.8 acres of land.

Canal & River Trust makes £168,544 a year through rent of the properties, according to the listing.

The properties are set for auction on 7 November.

Richard Joyce, spokesperson for the Canal & River Trust, said: “Our intention is that all the cottages will be sold together as a single lot to a single buyer.”

Addressing tenants’ concerns about the sale, he said: “We understand that a change of ownership might seem unsettling, but in practice, whilst there will be a change of ownership there won’t be a change to our residents’ tenancies.”

Joyce said no one was required to leave their home and the properties would be sold on the same terms as the tenants have in place.

“We will keep in touch with our tenants as the sale progresses,” he said.
