News agency seeks charity partners for free coverage support

The news agency South West News Service is looking for 10 charity partners that it will support with landing coverage for their causes.

The pro bono partnership will see SWNS push the chosen charities’ cause stories through its news wire while providing feedback and support throughout 2025.

The news agency will also provide opportunities to send out photographers for stories and charity partners can use images and video taken for their social media platforms.

Eligible charities must have human interest-led stories to tell which are of interest to national and international media, SWNS said.

Charities must also have a press officer and be prepared to share their stories with SWNS exclusively.

“We’ve always shone a light on the great work charities do but in recent years we’ve combined our skills and expertise to work collaboratively and closely with charities, producing incredible coverage for worthy causes,” the agency said.

“SWNS has a 50-year track record of securing coverage in national and international or on websites every day.

“We'd work with you to gain press coverage for the work your charity does and the people (or animals) it supports.”

Laura Elvin, head of news at SWNS, said the chosen charities would be those that want to help land coverage for stories about people.

So not branded content, or stories about launching new campaigns, or new initiatives - although this work is of course related and important - but stories about the people who support, help, fundraise for and benefit from charities,” she said.

“We know charities around the UK have heaps of these stories. But they are often left untold, because charities lack the resource to really amplify these tales, or when they do, they understandably don't have time to develop relationships with every national news desk.”

Elvin said charity partners could help SWNS make sure its “brilliant human interest journalism” also shone a light on the hard work done by charities, by telling the stories of those they help or support.

To apply, email laura.elvin@swns.com with the subject line ‘Charity appeal’ along with a short message about your charity, examples of stories you have covered or SWNS could cover and how SWNS could help.

The deadline for applications is 20 December.
