Tributes paid to ‘fundraising trailblazer’ who has died at 62
Tributes have been paid to the “forward-thinking” former boss of a bereavement charity after her death aged 62.
Caroline Ford became chief executive of Holding On Letting Go in 2018 after 14 years at The Wisdom Hospice as an administrator and fundraising officer.
She received a life-limiting cancer diagnosis in 2023 and subsequently left Holding on Letting Go to spend time with her family.
The charity said Ford died at The Wisdom Hospice last week.
Margaret Gallagher, chair of Holding on Letting Go, which supports bereaved children and young people, said: “Our very own Caroline had been an advocate of Holding On Letting Go as a volunteer, a programme manager, and latterly, as our CEO.
“Caroline was always forward-thinking, leading us through tricky times including the change in charitable status to being a CIO, and the long and arduous journey through Covid-19.
“Caroline only saw problems as an opportunity to think creatively and seek solutions. A natural leader, she supported the development and skills of the staff team, earning their respect and utmost loyalty.
“Our charity has a special place in its heart for Caroline. She will be sadly missed as a leader, advisor, counsellor, colleague and friend. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Caroline’s family, friends and former colleagues. Caroline will be sadly missed but never forgotten.”
In a statement, The Wisdom Hospice described Ford as “a fundraising trailblazer”, adding that “Caroline’s dedicated service has left an indelible mark on the charity”.
It said: “Sadly Caroline lost her battle with cancer, spending her last few days at The Wisdom Hospice where her legacy of compassion and commitment will forever resonate.”
Ford’s family has set up a memorial fundraiser, which can be found here.
It describes Ford as an “incredible woman, a wonderful mother, adored nanna and a treasured friend”.
It says: “She will be remembered fondly for her vibrant spirit, lust for life and the way she cared deeply for those close to her.”
