International development charity to close after more than 60 years
A 60-year-old international development charity plans to close because of financial difficulties.
Feed the Minds has worked with partner organisations across Africa and Asia since 1964 to provide vulnerable people with opportunities to “build more fulfilling lives”.
The charity said that, “with a heavy heart”, it would close on 30 April due to “financial constraints”. It added that the board had decided to shut down the organisation at a point where it could be done in a responsible and managed manner.
Feed the Minds said all its current projects would be completed or, wherever possible, would be transitioned to alternative management.
“We are working closely with our partners and donors to ensure a smooth transition and minimise disruption to the communities we support,” the charity said.
“When Feed the Minds closes, any remaining assets and funds will be distributed in accordance with our legal and ethical obligations.”
The charity recorded an income of £779,617 and spending of £754,346 in the year to the end of April 2024, latest accounts show. It employed 10 people over the same period.
Sandy Sneddon, chair of Feed the Minds, said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Feed the Minds.
“While this is a difficult moment, we are immensely proud of the legacy we leave behind—a legacy built on partnerships, creativity and integrity.
“Feed the Minds will formally cease operations on 30 April 2025.
“All efforts are being made to minimise the impact on stakeholders, including staff, partners and beneficiaries.”
The charity expressed gratitude to its supporters, donors and partners who have made its work possible in the past six decades.
“The charity’s vision – a world in which all people have the opportunity to live life to the fullest – remains a call to action for all who continue to champion education and empowerment,” it said.
