Former hospital charity chief to lead children’s organisation
Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm has appointed Sharon Milner, former director of Bradford Hospitals Charity, as its new chief executive.
Milner, who took up the post in at the end of last year, succeeds the charity’s former chief Dave Norman, who is stepping down after 10 years leading the organisation, which provides residentials and learning experiences to disadvantaged children. Norman is currently overseeing a detailed handover with Milner but will leave the charity at the end of March.
The charity, which was launched as Leeds Children’s Charity in 1904, began using the Lineham Farm site for its breaks in 2016 and the two organisations merged in 2020.
Milner brings 18 years of experience in the charity sector to the top job, having spent the last two years as the director of Bradford Hospitals Charity.
She previously served as chief executive of the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund for 16 years.
Milner said: “The charity provides a vital service for youngsters in Leeds by offering adventure and learning in a safe and happy environment.
“The team here does an incredible job, helping to make a real difference to young people and I am looking forward to continuing this excellent work, further strengthening our brand, and highlighting the hugely important impact the charity’s work has on the lives of deprived children across the city.”
Norman welcomed Milner to the post, saying: “It’s been an honour to lead the Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm for the past 10 years and I am hugely proud of all we’ve achieved in that time.
“I am very pleased to welcome Sharon as the new chief executive knowing that the charity’s work will continue to develop under her guidance, support and leadership.”
Ian Hargreaves, chair of the Leeds Children’s Charity, said that Milner’s “impressive background in running successful charitable organisations and board member roles, along with her passion for the cause, make her the perfect fit to lead our organisation into the future”.
He added: “We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dave Norman for his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication over the years.
“His guidance has been instrumental in shaping the charity into the impactful organisation it is today, providing vital support and enriching experiences to countless children.”
