Advice charities invited to apply for share of fund
Charities that provide advice to older people are being invited to apply for a share of £1.8m grant fund.
The older people’s charity Independent Age has opened the latest round of its Boosting Advice Fund, which aims to support charities that help older people avoid unfair or unavoidable costs and access financial support.
To be eligible, charities must be working in one of five high priority areas: Newcastle, Manchester, Leicester, Glasgow and the London boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.
Independent Age said it had selected these areas based on census data that highlighted higher populations of older people.
Eligible organisations will be able to apply for between £90,000 and £150,000 over three years.
The charity said it was looking to fund organisations with an established track record of providing high-quality advice in a face-to-face setting.
It said organisations that apply do not need to be already working with older people but would have to provide a robust plan as to how they intended to do so.
The first round of the fund gave out £3.1m to 19 advice organisations.
Hannah Lison, head of grants and partnerships at Independent Age, said: “Our first round of funding received so much interest that it was very clear that we’d have to run a second one.
“Access to quality advice is key to tackling poverty in later life, as we know many older people who are entitled to Pension Credit and other benefits are not receiving it.
This £1.8m will go directly to advice organisations whose brilliant work will improve older people’s lives through increased financial wellbeing.”
