Children’s charity appoints next leader as founding chief retires
Sarah Woods has been appointed chief executive of Momentum Children’s Charity.
Woods, who has spent the past five years as director of fundraising and marketing at Starlight Children’s Foundation, will succeed Bianca Effemey.
Effemey, who founded the charity in 2004, is retiring but will remain part of the organisation as lifelong president.
Before joining Starlight, Woods was director of marketing and audience engagement and prior to that she spent 10 years at Comic Relief, latterly as head of marketing and fundraising.
Woods, who began her working career in TV production and publicity for EastEnders, said she was committed to building on the “extraordinary” leadership Effemey had provided at Momentum.
“Momentum’s mission to support children and families facing cancer or life-challenging conditions is one that resonates profoundly with me, and I am excited to lead this incredible organisation as we remain a steadfast source of care, compassion and strength,” said Woods.
“No family should ever have to face these challenges alone, and I look forward to leading this vital work forward for as long as we are needed.”
Graham Smith, chair of Momentum Children’s Charity, said Woods’ experience and passion would be “invaluable as we continue to support families facing some of the toughest challenges and as the charity continues to grow”.
Woods will take up her new role in May.
