Amount donated by high-net-worth individuals revealed

The UK’s richest people gave almost £8bn to charity in 2023, latest figures show.

High Value Giving, published by the Charities Aid Foundation, says the country’s wealthiest 1 per cent donated a total of £7.96bn to charitable causes, equivalent to 0.4 per cent of their combined investable assets.

CAF said that separate research for its UK Giving report showed that the wider UK public gave an estimated £13.9bn to good causes in 2023, equivalent to 1.6 per cent of their income.

The report says that if high-net-worth individuals gave 1 per cent of their investable assets, it would create an additional £12bn for UK charities.

SCVO opens voluntary redundancy scheme to tackle £500,000 deficit

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations is looking for some of its staff to take voluntary redundancy or reduce their hours, with the aim of cutting staff costs by 8 per cent over the next two years.

Third Sector understands that the about 85 SCVO staff were told that every year, the organisation’s costs exceed its forecast income by about £500,000.

But the umbrella body’s board has told senior management to take action to eliminate that deficit over the next two financial years.

New match funding campaign launched

A new match funding campaign will run during this year’s Small Charity Week. 

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations has partnered with the funding platform the Big Give and Global’s Make Some Noise, which is the charity of the media company Global, to launch the Small Charity Week Match Funding Campaign.

The campaign will double donations made via the Big Give to participating charities between 23 and 30 June.
