Girlguiding chief to step down

Angela Salt is set to step down as chief executive of the girls and young women’s charity Girlguiding after six years in the role.

The charity said in a statement that Salt would step down in June and would look at new opportunities at that point.

“Angela has steered the organisation through an extraordinary time – including the pandemic and through recovery, underpinned by Girlguiding’s 2020 strategy and updating the Girlguiding brand,” the charity said.

“She has also strengthened our governance, financial and organisational resilience against an ever-changing external backdrop.

“Angela has worked hard to influence decision-makers and create a more equal world for girls.

“She has been a champion for our advocates and with them has helped shape important changes for girls in online safety, period poverty and public sexual harassment.”

Salt said she was humbled and privileged to have led the charity.

“There is no finer cause than helping girls be their best selves, making a difference in their communities and the world,” she said.

“I am proud to have played a small part in helping girls know they can do anything.”

The charity said the recruitment process for Salt’s successor was underway.

Girlguiding attracted national media attention in 2023 when it decided to sell off all five of its activity centres in a bid to secure its financial future.

One of the centres has been purchased by a campaign group that was set up to keep it going.
