Government urged to unlock £11bn ‘jackpot’ for charities

Charities could benefit from a “goldmine” of up to £11bn if the government releases dormant funds, assets and unclaimed Gift Aid, according to a new report.

Supercharging Philanthropy, published by the The Centre for Social Justice, says the think tank has uncovered almost £4bn in dormant funds, dormant assets and unclaimed Gift Aid that could be used to enhance the work of small charities.

It calls for most of these assets to be funnelled into a new £3.3bn National Mission Innovation Fund that could be used as match-funding for small charities to release an additional £8.2bn of philanthropic giving in the UK from wealthy donors.

Major funders collaborate to launch £15m, decade-long fund

Twelve major grantmakers have come together to launch the programme, which aims to tackle the root causes of poverty, racism and climate change in Edinburgh. 

The Regenerative Futures Fund, launched today, is a 10-year pooled fund that brings together long-term commitments from some of the UK’s biggest funders.

Charity sector leaders urged the government to track the results of the £15m funder collaboration as a model for other parts of the country.

Claimant to pay charity £20,000 for ‘unreasonable conduct’ during failed employment tribunal claim

A former employee at Change Grow Live was ordered to pay the amount to the charity after a judge threw out her claims of race discrimination and ruled she acted unreasonably during proceedings.

The employment tribunal judge ruled former administrator Peaches Scott included “fabricated allegations” in her claim and shouted at witnesses during the hearing in Birmingham last month, latest documents show. 

Scott unreasonably conducted trial preparations by failing to prepare for preliminary hearings, the tribunal concluded.
