Major charity’s shops to sell Aldi products
The Salvation Army has embarked on a two-year partnership with Aldi, which will see the supermarket offer the charity unsold non-food products at a reduced cost.
The partnership will allow the Christian charity, which supports families, older people and those experiencing homelessness, to resell the supermarket’s products in its stores.
Aldi will offer unsold, non-food items to the charity including kitchen accessories, home furnishings and clothing, at a reduced cost.
The charity’s trading arm, Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd, will then resell the products across its network of more than 250 stores, with profits going towards supporting the Salvation Army’s work.
The two-year partnership comes after the organisations trialled the scheme for a year, during which SATCoL raised more than £350,000 through the sale of Aldi products in its stores.
Kirk Bradley, head of corporate partnerships at The Salvation Army, said: “We are delighted to partner with Aldi to offer some of its products in our stores.
“This partnership will contribute to providing a vital funding source for our charity as well as great quality products to our customers across the UK.”
Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi, said: “We’re committed to doing all that we can to support our local communities and it’s great to be able to support The Salvation Army in stocking their stores.
“We know the profits raised will provide vital funds for the charity to continue its ongoing work to support those who need it most across the country.”
According to its latest accounts filed with Companies House, SATCoL generated £82.9m in the financial year to the end of March 2024, up from £73.3m in the previous 12 months.
