Anti-slavery charity appoints former Pohwer chief to top job

The former Pohwer chief executive has taken up the top job at Anti-Slavery International.

Helen Moulinos is the long-term successor to Jasmine O’Connor, who left in the autumn to take up the top job at Reset Communities for Refugees. Donna Covey led the charity in the interim.

Moulinos, who joined Anti-Slavery International last month, was most recently interim chief executive at the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, a job she held from June to December last year.

Before that she was interim executive director at AidsMap for six months and led the advocacy charity Pohwer between May 2020 and December 2023.

Moulinos has also held various roles at Marie Curie, Stonewall, Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society and The Children’s Society over the past decade.

She has been a trustee for the Global Legal Action Network since April last year and was previously the vice-chair of Amnesty International UK and a trustee for the Civil Liberties Trust.

Moulinos has also worked for private sector organisations including financial services companies Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and HSBC.

Anti-Slavery International said that, as a “prominent guest columnist and seasoned media spokesperson”, Moulinos frequently raises awareness about civil liberties, democracy, social mobility and equality.

Moulinos said: “I’m taking up this role with deep respect for the staff, survivors, activists and advocates who have fought tirelessly for freedom—and with a commitment to amplifying their voices and accelerating progress for a fairer world.

“It’s a really challenging time for charities right now, and I’m looking forward to supporting Anti-Slavery International to strengthen in the face of challenges and geo-political uncertainty.”

Sunil Sheth, chair of Anti-Slavery International, said: “Helen’s passion and experience will be invaluable to Anti-Slavery International.

“We look forward to working with Helen and are confident that her broad experience will help Anti-Slavery International drive its mission to realise freedom from slavery for everyone.”
