Lack of clear direction for social care at a national level contributes to charity’s closure decision
An independent living charity has announced its closure due to funding challenges and the lack of a clearly defined direction for social care at a national level.
Cymryd Rhan Taking Part, which provided support for people to live in their own homes and access training, employment and leisure activities, stopped operating at the end of March.
The Powys-based charity said a challenging funding environment alongside ongoing pressures to continue providing support had led to its closure.
Taking Part recorded an income of £789,199 and spending of £982,383 in the year to the end of March 2024, accounts show, and had 30 employees over the same period.
The charity said its circumstances placed it in a position where it questioned whether it could properly support its beneficiaries.
“With challenges in funding, staff development, succession planning, and no clearly defined direction set at a national level for social care, Cymryd Rhan has decided that it will not deliver services where it feels compromised and is faced with delivering less than the expectations for each citizen,” the charity said.
“We would like to thank all of the citizens we have supported over the past 40 years, and to say that it has been a privilege to have been part of your life in the time that we have supported you.
“We would also like to thank all of our trustees, volunteers, staff and in particular the senior management team who have successfully navigated the organisation through the multiple challenges that the organisation has faced while delivering services which have achieved high standards of quality.”
