New Charity Commission board members revealed

The government has appointed new members to the Charity Commission’s board.

The solicitor Tasnim Khalid and digital transformation leader Alan Mather will take up their posts on the regulator’s board from today (23 April), filling two existing vacancies.

They will hold the posts for a three-year term.

Khalid is the founder and managing partner of Private Client Solicitors, a boutique law firm that specialised in private wealth planning, charity law and practice.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Khalid has also been chief executive of the tech-centric law firm My Probate Solicitors for a year. She has previously held positions at JMW Solicitors LLP, George Davies Solicitors LLP and Geoffry Lucas Solicitors.

Khalid has been ranked in several leading legal directories, DCMS said, including the Chambers HNW Guide and Legal 500.

She was listed in the Telegraph’s 100 Female Entrepreneurs to Watch list and won the Northern Power Woman Award 2024. She also won Legal 500 Private Client Partner of the Year for the Northern Powerhouse award 2025, DCMS said.

Mather is an “experienced transformation leader with a strong track record in leading complicated technology programmes across the public and private sectors”, DCMS said.

It added that Mather was a “recognised pioneer” of UK digital government, having launched the first transactional services including the Government Gateway and Direct.gov.uk.

Recently, Mather has delivered and designed digital services for organisations including the National Physical Laboratory and the Home Office.

DCMS said Mather has also held chief executive, chief information officer and chief operating officer positions at large organisations and led the turnaround of major programmes.

He has previously been a non-executive director in the hospitality and energy sector.

DCMS said that neither Khalid or Mather had declared any significant political activity in the past five years.

The Charity Commission is still awaiting the appointment of a permanent chair to suceed Orlando Fraser, who is stepping down on 24 April.

Mark Simms, chief executive of the support charity P3, was last month named interim chair.

Fraser said: “As I leave the commission, it gives me great joy to see two new dynamic appointments to the board, who will contribute further expertise to the commission in the future.

“Alan and Tasnim are both leaders in their fields, and the commission is lucky to have them.”

The new appointees will be paid £350 per day.
